Sport (v)
c. 1400 Old French: to take pleasure, to amuse, play
Sport is sport... and NDIS embraces it. Almost every NDIS plan will include funding options for sport. If it's not obvious, we can work it.
It doesn't matter what's motivating you - fitness, friendship, challenge, quality of life. If you're "not that type" and avoid sport, then think about fun games, low key therapy, or exciting outdoor activities.
It doesn't matter what you call it, if you have physical limitations you NEED to be ACTIVE and sport can make it doable... and if you don't, then it will cost you. Reduced movement, maybe pain, weight gain, loss of independence, isolation, more health problems. Ouch! So just do it.
TYPES OF SPORT
What's possible. What's best. What's practical?
There's lots to consider - level, informal/formal, individual/team?
Think about fatigue, social environment, your timetable, cost.
Perhaps a chat with us over a coffee, will give you some appealing ideas.
EQUIPMENT
Ahh... is a particular openable water bottle needed?
Maybe it's some USA wheelchair racing gloves OR zipper runners?
What about a modified bike or special helmet?
Physio, OT, specialist reports and quotes. We've got it covered!
SUPPORT
Once you've decided on an accessible sport, consider whether you need support.
can you get there? need a driver?
do you need physical assistance?
what about followup therapy, personal training or stretching?
We can nut it out and streamline it for you.
HOW?
Specialised sports clubs or training groups can be hard to find.
Google wheelchair basketball Melbourne and there's not much. Try and find a local group, it's tough.
Let alone all the details. We can help, we'll investigate, advise and refer.
